Sony announced this morning that it has raised the price of the PlayStation 5 and its accessories in Japan, citing the economic changes the world is witnessing.
While we expect the price of the PlayStation 5 to be reduced in the markets, as happened previously with PlayStation 4 devices during the same period of their lifespan, Sony is taking steps contrary to what was expected, as it is raising the price of the device instead of reducing it.
Earlier, with the announcement of the new slim version, we saw the price increase by $50 instead of a decrease. Today, Sony is raising the price again, but this time the decision is exclusive to the Japanese market only, which will start to be implemented on September 2, 2024.

Sony justified this increase in the price of the PlayStation 5 and its accessories in Japan due to global economic fluctuations.
So far, as we mentioned, this price increase will be applied in Japan, but we do not know whether Sony has a plan to gradually apply the same plan in other countries or not.
It is noteworthy that sales of the PlayStation 5 have exceeded the 60 million unit mark, and Sony has hinted that it expects a decline in sales during the second half of the virtual console’s life. There are strong rumors that Sony intends to launch the professional version of the PlayStation 5 Pro in the markets before the end of this year, and the price of the device is expected to reach $ 600 to $ 650.
